    Growing up

I was first diagnosed with hemophilia A around 9 months old, and I didn't have a family history, so it took a while to actually figure out what was going on. I was experiencing bleeding in my left elbow, and so we had to go around, saw a number of doctors, and finally came across one that was familiar enough with hemophilia A to give me a diagnosis.

My dad's role in taking care of me was phenomenal. He's an Occupational Therapist, and so even though he didn't know a lot about hemophilia, he was able to really help me out, especially when I experienced bleeding episodes, knowing the right things to do to take care of my body, and help me along the way.

In third grade, I was experiencing quite a bit of bleeding episodes, I had to miss a lot of school, and wasn't able to participate in PE, and so those things made it kind of difficult socially.

As I grew older, as I matured, as I started getting up in junior high and high school, I was able to do a better job explaining what was taking place, explaining why I experienced the things that I did.

Things started to come around, get better, and improve for me; as I got into high school, I was able to thrive more socially. I was eventually senior class president, and captain of the basketball team.

Before starting a sport or activity, I always check with my doctor.

    My treatment with KOVALTRY®

I started taking KOVALTRY® earlier this year. Before starting KOVALTRY®, I met with my doctor to discuss if it might be right for me. My doctor and I talked about the risks associated with KOVALTRY®, which include inhibitors, headache, fever, and itchy rash (see additional safety information below).

When I first tried KOVALTRY®, I did the free trial through Bayer Access Solutions, and they were really good about it. When the free trial ended and I stayed on KOVALTRY®, they made sure my coverage for KOVALTRY® was all taken care of.

My doctor and I talked about my goals.

The 2 most important goals for me are my ability to help control bleeds and having a dosing schedule that works for me. I started taking KOVALTRY® twice a week, as prophylaxis, to help control my bleeding.

    On vacation

    Today

These days, I stay really busy, I'm a teacher, I teach history, and I'm a basketball coach, so I'm always on the go, also like to stay active, so I play golf, lift weights 4-5 times a week.

Before starting a sport or activity, I always check with my doctor.

I infuse on Wednesday and Sunday, which is a great fit and works really well with my busy schedule.

    Seth: Looking forward

I was involved in hemophilia camp as a counselor, I wasn't ever able to go as a child, but once I was old enough and able, I wanted to be able to get back involved and give back to children who were experiencing the things that I experienced, to get involved with them and be a good example and a positive role model with them.

    INDICATIONS

KOVALTRY® is a medicine used to replace clotting factor (Factor VIII or antihemophilic factor) that is missing in people with hemophilia A.

KOVALTRY® is used to treat and control bleeding in adults and children with hemophilia A. KOVALTRY® can reduce the number of bleeding episodes in adults and children with hemophilia A when used regularly (prophylaxis). Your healthcare provider may give you KOVALTRY® when you have surgery.

KOVALTRY® is not used to treat von Willebrand Disease.

    IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

You should not use KOVALTRY® if you are allergic to rodents (like mice and hamsters) or any ingredients in KOVALTRY®.

Tell your healthcare provider if you have heart disease or are at risk for heart disease.

The common side effects of KOVALTRY® are headache, fever, and itchy rash.

Allergic reactions may occur with KOVALTRY®. Call your healthcare provider right away and stop treatment if you get tightness of the chest or throat, dizziness, decrease in blood pressure, and nausea.

Your body can also make antibodies, called "inhibitors," against KOVALTRY®, which may stop KOVALTRY® from working properly. Consult with your healthcare provider to make sure you are carefully monitored with blood tests for the development of inhibitors to Factor VIII.

Tell your healthcare provider about any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.

Call your healthcare provider right away if bleeding is not controlled after using KOVALTRY®.
